Wisdom of The Fire & Smoke Goddess: Embracing Destruction and Creation

An erupting volcano can be chaotic, overwhelming, and destructive, as an analogy to life, which holds uncertainty, fear, and confusion.

Did you know that volcanos are necessary to create new land for life to grow upon? What if I told you that these life moments of uncertainty is part of a cycle of endings and beginnings?

I did a shamanic journey to the Fire and Smoke Goddess on January 18th, 2025. There’s many things happening in the world - an abundance of loss, grief, rage, and uncertainty. So, I decided to dive into a journey to receive messages of guidance. This is the message I received from the Fire and Smoke Goddess, and how her wisdom has shifted my perspective on how to navigate life’s most turbulent times.

Who is the Fire and Smoke Goddess?

The Fire and Smoke Goddess is an archetype of transformation, embodying the dual forces of destruction and creation. Like a volcano, her energy is fierce yet nurturing. She destroys what no longer serves us, making way for fertile ground where new life can emerge. We can always look to nature in how patterns, archetypes, and qualities that exist and play out in our own lives.

In my vision, she appeared amidst an erupting volcano, surrounded by red skies and flowing lava. At first, the scene was intimidating, but as I sat with her presence, it became clear that her essence was deeply feminine: powerful, loving, and wise.

Her message was clear: Chaos and loss are necessary parts of the cycle of transformation.

The Dance of Destruction and Creation

The Fire and Smoke Goddess reminds us of a universal truth that life moves in waves of yin and yang, ebb and flow.

As a volcano’s eruption destroys the land, it also creates new surfaces for life to grow. This duality is a natural part of existence, and resisting it only deepens our suffering.

When we face difficult times, it’s easy to feel hopeless or stuck. But the Goddess teaches us to surrender to the flow of life and trust that every ending carries the seeds of a new beginning. It’s through this surrender that we allow ourselves to be carried by the Tao—the natural order of the universe.

Finding Joy in the Journey

One of the most surprising and beautiful messages she shared was about joy.
“The path must be enjoyable,” she said. “Even in times of darkness, seek moments of pleasure, connection, and creativity.”

Joy doesn’t erase our challenges, but it gives us the strength to move through them. It’s a reminder that life isn’t just about reaching a destination. It’s about how we walk the path. By orienting ourselves toward pleasure and curiosity, we can navigate even the most challenging transitions with greater ease and resilience.

How to Work with the Fire and Smoke Goddess

The Fire and Smoke Goddess offers wisdom for anyone navigating chaos, loss, or transformation. Here are a few ways to embody her energy in your own life:

  1. Surrender to the Flow
Let go of the need to control every outcome. Trust that life is guiding you exactly where you need to be.

  2. Focus on Your Purpose
When the outside world feels overwhelming, return to what lights you up. Whether it’s your work, creativity, or acts of service, these are the anchors that keep you steady amidst the waves.

  3. Embrace Joy
Find moments of fun, pleasure, and connection—even in the smallest ways. Joy is not indulgent; it’s essential.

  4. Honor the Duality of Life
Remember that destruction and creation are two sides of the same coin. When something falls away, ask yourself: What is this making space for?

A Sacred Invitation

The Fire and Smoke Goddess reminds us that life’s most challenging moments are also its most transformative. She is a symbol of impermanence, a guide through the darkness, and a nurturer of new beginnings.

If you’re facing major transitions, take a moment to breathe, come back to the body, feel the seat or ground below you. If there’s heat present anywhere in the body, notice that. If there’s comfort or discomfort, notice that. Allow yourself to come back to the present moment and know that the path has an intelligence to clear, or to birth something new.

How has chaos in your life paved the way for growth and renewal?
